I don't have any technical knowledge, can I still enroll in this course?
Yes, you can. We believe privacy is a basic human right that should be available to anyone. We made this course so that even our grandmothers could be following it!
When I DeGoogle my phone, will I still be able to use my favorite apps?
You will. In the course we will explain what the different implications will be for using different kind of apps. We will, for example, highly discourage you to use an app like Whatsapp or Facebook. But, if there’s really no other option (on another phone for example), we will still offer the option to use it in the most privately friendly way possible. And, on the other hand, we will still highly encourage you to get used to using alternatives.
I have an iPhone, can I still follow this course?
The first section of the course will be a general one, focusing on the privacy flaws we have on the internet in general. The rest of the course will be specifically for Android phone. The thing with iPhones is that the software is not as editable as much as Android, so there is a lot less you can do. What you can do, however, is purchase a cheap Android phone with great specs (like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro). You can then rebuild this phone and use this one for the maximum amount of privacy. You then have a choice to make.

I want to buy a new but affordable phone to DeGoogle it, which one should I get?
We at Android-Privacy.com we like the Xiaomi Redmi note 8/9, because of it’s great specs for a really low price. This low price mostly comes from all the bloatware that comes pre-installed on it, but we are going to get rid of that anyway 😉
I can just install a custom rom and then I'm done right?
No! This is a big mistake a lot of people make. Just installing a private rom will get rid of Google’s Android, but you’re still far away from the most privacy friendly setup (also see section 2 of the course).
How long is section 3?
Section 3 itself is 2 hours of video material. The rebuilding will probably take 3 hours for a more technical person and 4/5 hours for a less technical person.
How much time do I save?

Praktische hulp
Na de telefoon gekocht te hebben, bleek dat ik niet echt met de telefoon aan de slag kon. Dat lag vooral aan mijn (technische) vaardigheden. De oplossing bleek heel simpel. Ik nam contact op en kon langskomen om alles werkend te krijgen met een persoonlijke uitleg. Dat is gelukt! en geeft mij vertrouwen dat ik de telefoon echt kan gebruiken. Wanneer er een probleem is bel ik op of kan ik langskomen. Ideaal!
Geen enkele reden dus om deze telefoon niet aan te schaffen.
Goede prestatie voor een mobiel
De Pixel 7 die ik heb ontvangen werkt zoals beloofd. Over de software en Graphene OS hebben jullie duidelijke informatie gegeven, waarin alle relevante instructies glashelder zijn.
Alle big tech apps die je gebruikt kun je allemaal met een druk uitschakelen, wat naast zijn privacyvriendelijkheid ook gemakkelijk en energiebesparend is.
Software is perfect. Mobiel heeft goede opslag en dankzij insular functioneert die virtueel als twee mobieltjes in één. Werking is snel dankzij minimalisering van bloatware, en dat zie ik meteen terug.
Ik geef deze 5 sterren, omdat op dit moment deze mobiel softwarematig veelzijdig is. Enig feedforward dat ik wil meegeven is dat het goed zou zijn om in de toekomst een eigen mobiel te ontwerpen, die de duurzaamheid- en modulariteit van Fairphone heeft, en tegelijkertijd net als Google Pixel de mogelijkheid heeft om Graphene OS toe te passen.
